The ancient Romans and the Chinese

The ancient Romans keeps in touch with the Chinese for commercial purposes during the II century B.C., through the "Silky way". In the 130 B.C. there was the first chinese embassy that, however, reached only the lands of the Asia Minor. The ambassador was Zhang Quian, who started this travel as a wish of the Emperor Han Wudi. The first chinese embassies reached Roma under the emperor Octavian Augustus (27 B.C.- 14 A.C.).

The first roman embassy in China was in the 166 A.D., when Marcus Aurelius was Emperor.

We have a testimony of the Chinese general Cheng Tang recorded during the war against the Huns, in the 35 B.C.. He talks about some chosen unit of mercenaries that was fought in a complex disposition, as they were fish scales. This description made historicians think  that that Huns unit could be formed by Roman legionnaires captured during the battle of Carre, under the leadership of Crasso, and used as mercenaries. A genetic research made in 2005 by Nina Strochlic in the Chinese village of Li-Jien shows how the inhabitants have the 56% of their DNA in common with caucasian people.
