The location of the roman fort of Novae, in Bulgaria
The reconstruction of the fort
It is the year 45 AD, the Legio VIII Augusta, once the Thracians were defeated, established the permanent fort of Novae in the northern part of today's Bulgaria to guard the lower Danube area.
It's summer, the First Pilus (the highest ranking centurion) dreams of a glass of cold wine. He calls an attendant and orders him to fetch him some fresh wine from the fridge.

This is what could have happened in the far past in this place; yes because a team of archaeologists has found a primitive version of a refrigerator.
In one of the "rooms" of the barracks, a container of ceramic plates was found around a lead pipe through which the cold water from the well flowed, inside which the remains of crockery and food were found. This container, suitably insulated from the outside, was then cooled inside by the passage of cold water inside the pipe.
